You are bidding on a lovely pair of hand crafted walnut batchelor chests. Originally they were called batchelors chests as they were designed for single men to put their shirts and under garments in thus they are usually quite small and quite often have slides which pull out so that the gent can lay his shirt on the slide in the evening ready for the morning…nowadays the smaller size of them makes ideal bedside cabinets. The chests have five drawers and brass fittings. They are both offered in perfect condition ready for home use right away. As well as the bedroom these also look good in other situations in your home – for instance the sitting or living room.
You can see from the photographs here how the top slides out which is where the shirt would have been laid. This piece has just come back from the restorers where it was repolished and the grain and burl of the walnut has come up a treat. The great thing about these pieces is the lovely story behind their original use.
